KI Memories from Deb

These are Deb's latest layouts for the Pullman Store. She used the KI Memories Bloom line.

I love the way that she cut apart the apple die-cut paper and used it on all of her pages. She even sanded it (on the last layout)!

I thought I would share some of Malinda's recent creations with you. She made the cutest mini album from the Sassafras Sunshine and Lollipops Collection and an EK Success Cupcake book.

New Camping Papers

Since we go camping about once every 11 1/2 years, I wasn't thinking about all the things a photographer/scrapbooker should be taking photos of while on a July camping trip to Hell's Gate. Nonetheless, I took a few photos and Shawna gave me the new camping papers to create this layout! While I used the arrows paper as a background for camping, imagine all that you could do with it: use your Bazzill arrow chipboard and create layouts about special people, or the "teeny tiny" thing in the far away photo that you are trying to spotlight. The reverse side of these papers are fantastically suited for camping as well...you really must see them!

Stop in to the store and you can pull the "then" tab (bottom left on layout) and read the story of this trip as well as see my only other camping layout (circa 1997). Yeah, my oldest has changed and so has my scrapbooking!

Hambly

Check out these cool little pieces of art from London. She used Hambly chandelier overlays and rub-ons, bling, beads, and more! This card is made from Kraft cardstock, red paint, two rhinestones, a Hambly chandelier rub-on, and real necklace chain.

This layout features paint, rub-ons, chipboard buttons, and more. I love that this layout is 6x12 in size.

London's final project is this super cool pair of chandelier earrings. She cut the chandeliers from the overlay sheet and paired them with some chain and beads to make a fabulous fashion accessory.

Creative Imagination - Bloom

This page uses the new Die-Cut papers and rub-ons from Creative Imaginations - Bloom line. I love how she incorporated puzzle pieces right onto her layout!

October Afternoon - in the summer? Yes!

The new October Afternoon paper is in both stores and it is amazing. You saw what Judy did with the line in the Moscow store, now I had the chance to play with the line in the Pullman store. I love it! The shades of blue and orange; the deer, bunnies, dots and flowers...wow! I love it all. I'm sure you will too!!

When you use patterned papers you have to think outside the box. This flower print is fun and spunky...just like the cute kids in the photos...I'm sure you have excellent subjects for such paper too!

I love using quotes on my pages. I don't do it often enough...but Yoda just spoke to me here. I also used some fun chipboard arrows to draw the eye to the semi-blurry "action-shot" of Harrison without his training wheels. My favorite way to treat chipboard is to paint it and after the paint dries apply a thick layer of Diamond Glaze (and in this case some Stickles for some extra pizzazz)!

Really, do you have a photo of a deer...probably not (and don't head to your D.H.'s "office" for a photo of one of his trophies...
this paper is much to whimsical for that type of deer.
Again, outside the box...get creative!

Bam Pop!

I have spent a lot of time with the products Shawna gave me. I was really inspired by a challenge at Inspired by Amelie where you had to pick a quote from the movie, and used that as my theme. The Bam Pop paper worked beautifully with the quote! I couldn't find any stickers or rub ons to use from Paper Pals that matched the theme so I used a font online and printed it on photo paper, then colored it in with sharpies and paint pens. It was kind of a fun trick! The background is a flat canvas board. fitting the scene on 12 by 12 paper was just too crowded.

New Carolee's Collection

I really liked working with this new paper from Carolee's Collection. The Tiny Baby Girl and Tiny Baby Boy lines are really cute and really versatile. For the girl page (featuring the bright smiling faces of my 6 adorable nieces) I got out my scissors and cut out some cute "patchwork" from the patterned paper. I also used some pink paint, sewed ric-rac down the left side and used a huge pink flower for embellishment. For the title I covered a chipboard number and painted some ordinary buttons to pair with the ribbon for added effect.


Recently I was spending too much time reading scrapbooking message boards. One interesting thread was about the differences between 'boy' pages and 'girl' pages. Some scrapbookers even said that they much prefer to scrapbook pages of their daughters because it was more fun to use pink and ribbons and bows and sparkles and such and that they thought the pages of their sons were boring because they felt they had to stick to "dull" colors and couldn't use "fun" embellishments. Had those particular scrappers been in front of me instead of my computer screen, I just might have gone off and slapped them all. But instead of getting mad and typing a regrettably irate message, I decided to actually do something about it. So I got out my paint and white-out pen and ribbons and buttons and cut and glued and painted and scrapped. Yes, I used ribbon on a 'boy' page and I don't think my 4 little nephews look any less rough-and-tumble. Okay, so that rant was a little long-winded, but the point is this; Don't not scrap your sons or daughters or pets or house or friends or parents or whatever because you don't like "that right way" of scrapping.

....whew....and don't forget the leftover scraps. I've been on a mini-book kick lately and had a great time making this little book with more pictures of my smiling nieces and nephews. Mini-books are really easy to put together quickly. I don't have a large circle punch, so I just traced a large bowl for the front and back covers and a smaller bowl for the inside pages and used nearly every bit of leftover paper and ribbon scraps.

New Sassafrass & Serendipity Lines

My friends know of my love for all things America. It all started many years ago, but the all-out commitment to it as my decor happened after 9-11. Imagine my delight when Shawna asked me to do something with the new Sassafrass paper and the felt cut-outs. This paper is so versatile: Independence Day, a special card for a friend, or a lovely background for just about anything you can imagine! The Doodlebug "loopy lou" stickers are one of my favorites right now...you'll see a lot of them in my "stuff".

Both layouts were inspired by Donna Downey's latest "layouts" book. That girl has got it going on...I truly am inspired by her!

At long last, my daughter was able to get her first American Girl doll...oh, what a day! The new papers by Serendipity couple gorgeous turquoise, red, gray and black for a striking combination. I love this paper!

Oh the things you can do with all the little leftovers. There are 6 cards shown here...I had some photography trouble...

Canvas Art for another sister:)

When I took the canvas art challenge a couple of weeks ago, I really enjoyed it. My sister Gena received her canvas art for her birthday, only a couple of days late. My other sister, Tricia, posted to the PPDT blog her request for one next year (clever woman). Well, she is too kind. At the time of her post I was weeks late getting a present to her for her birthday! So...she gave me some suggestions for her quote and the colors, and Ta Da...here is Canvas Art #2. Again, thanks to Donna Downey for the inspiration, and the wonderful Doodlebug letters for the "masks" during the painting process. These are fun and easy...and both sisters liked them!!

First day of kindergarten...

I had fun today playing with these papers....the patterned paper is Junkitz and the laser-cut number paper is from KI (both from the Pullman store). It's hard to believe that "K's" kindergarten year is almost over---I know I've said this before, but she is growing up WAY too fast!!
My scanner always cuts off the bottom of my layouts. :0(

April: Making Memories, "Animal Crackers"

just a fun little lo commemorating our birth class reunion after the birth of my first son...all those little cherubs are big 3-year olds now!!! we're still very close friends with Angelina, so looking back on these is pretty cool. i popped up the patterned paper block with dimensional tape to try to enhance the cut-outs. also used that same paper as a stencil for some smudgey little stars on the outer edge. hand-cut title letters from the insert that comes with the Making Memories "jack" border & tag stickers... (come on...with a pattern this cute on the "trash" you know they were thinking we'd be using it up, don't you think?!?!) very cute papers for babies (and other creative topics i'm not thinking of at the moment)!!!



this next lo came together faster than either of the other two, and i think i like it best!! using patterned paper (yes, a WHOLE piece, Shawna...look at me go!! ;-) ) as the background paper was kind of new for me...popped up the picture again for some interest and to lift the photo up and away from all the layering action around the edges a bit... letters are also Making Memories...LOVE these for their versatility...thesaurus page highlighting "precious", and other random bits. this is a cool touchy feely page b/c those letters on the background paper are FUZZY!

April: Karen Foster Design, "Time to Play"

simple as the design is, this lo took me FOREVER to figure out...i'm pretty happy with the result! some basic squares helped tone down the potential busy-ness of the patterned paper, the number of photos, and the journaling blocks. in the outdoor spirit of the photos, i added some sticks my boys and i gathered on a recent walk and used buttons for a hint of boyish floral. finished off with the painty smudges and some embroidery floss...very fun...isn't that little tongue poking out so stinkin' cute?!?!

April Project Challenge

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. All your pages are rockin this time around. Some of the new paper lines are killer! I love all the bright colors! I want to challenge all of you to make an altered canvas! Think of it as a layout in 3D! I had so much fun making this that I want to see what everyone else would come up with.

For this I used a transparency to print the photo on, with the natural canvas it created a look similar to a transfer. I tore a page from one of my favorite books and highlighted words that spoke to me. (if you really like a quote or story this is a cool way to preserve it) The hambly rub ons went on smooth, and i love how bright they are! I cut phrases from magazines that went with the mood and glued them on. it was a cool way to use some scraps and really get my hands dirty! So if you want a new challenge try canvas!

Sassafrass Sunshine Lollipop Line - by Deb!

This month in our scrap kit club the members were challenged to try stitching, either by hand or with machine. Deb had such a great time with it, that she used it on her DT layouts as well. On her first layout she hand stitched the papers and buttons onto the page. For her second page she used her sewing machine to stitch on the ribbon. For added coolness the second layout is created on a piece of cardboard from a box that once contained toys!

Sassafrass Robotics Line by Deb!

Deb had a great time with this line (and so did her son Roman). When she came in yesterday to turn her projects in, she decided that her mini album needed the cool robot rub-ons. In true Deb fashion, she let Roman help her decide where to place them. She also used staples and paint and pretty much every bit of paper in her kit!

Pretty Serendipity Paper

This bright new 'Sunshine Lollipop' line from Serendipity lent a much needed bit of irony to a layout about running a race in the snow. I am a card-carrying fan of the cool scalloped edges that Bazzil puts out and think they just make any page even more fun. I made the circle embellishments using punches and metal-rimmed tags all covered in a thick coat of Diamond Glaze. They take a while to dry (I let these go overnight) but I think the effect is worth it.

The leftover scraps made a cute little tag that could be used as a page embellishment, on a card or used as a gift tag. It's easy for me to just toss all my paper bits and scraps in a plastic bin and forget about them, but there really is so much more I could do with it all. I need to remember to make cards and tags and mini-books. Scrapbooking isn't just about 12x12 layouts, right?
